01 — Start with fit
Both options can be sensible
An on-demand taxi can suit a simple Gatwick trip when the traveller is comfortable arranging the vehicle at the time and explaining the destination and luggage then. A pre-booked chauffeur fits a different need: the passenger, date, address, terminal and load can be recorded before collection. Consider who is travelling, whether another person is organising the journey, how certain the itinerary is and what the airport handover requires. Choose the option whose booking and collection process best matches the passenger's day. A chauffeur booking can hold the collection address, desired Gatwick arrival, operating flight, North or South terminal, passenger count and luggage together. Extra collections and entrance notes can be agreed before the pickup. That structure is useful for early starts, organised guests or a fuller travelling party. A locally available taxi may remain the straightforward answer for a flexible passenger with a simple direct journey. The traveller still needs the correct terminal and enough vehicle capacity. Immediate availability is valuable when advance coordination adds little to the trip.

02 — Arriving at Gatwick
Compare the complete meeting process
Gatwick has North and South terminals, and the correct one belongs in either plan. With a pre-booked chauffeur, flight tracking can follow the recorded aircraft timing and airport meet and greet can provide a name-board contact at the agreed public location after formalities. An on-demand taxi can work well when the passenger is ready to arrange the onward trip. Gatwick distinguishes a parked Short Stay collection with a walk-in meeting from express pickup bays where the driver stays with the vehicle. Both terminals have their own arrangements; follow the booked instruction and current airport signs rather than assume an unrestricted kerbside collection. The dated terminal photographs here are not current pickup instructions.
03 — Compare the booking
Which arrangement fits the Gatwick journey?
| Features | Pre-booked chauffeur | On-demand taxi |
|---|---|---|
| Passenger | Named before travel | Arranged when needed |
| Terminal | Recorded in advance | Given at pickup |
| Luggage | Declared before allocation | Assessed on arrival |
| Meeting | Instruction confirmed | Available pickup process |
04 — Passenger and organiser
Decide who needs visibility before travel
A passenger booking directly may be happy to manage the terminal and vehicle on arrival. An assistant, family member or travel organiser may prefer a named record with the traveller's mobile, their own contact and the final address already confirmed. That preparation can make coordination clearer when the booker is elsewhere. Pre-booking still needs a reachable passenger contact because aircraft timing cannot show when an individual finishes baggage reclaim. Agree who can authorise a change, send only confirmed updates and keep one current version of the journey. For a pre-booked service, every occupied seat and substantial item can inform vehicle allocation. FCET offers Business, Business Estate, XL, First and SUV classes. The correct discussion is about usable passenger and luggage space, not selecting a vehicle name before describing the party. With an on-demand taxi, capacity may be assessed when the vehicle arrives. That can be entirely adequate for a light, simple journey. A family, group, pushchair or unusual load benefits from earlier description because seat count alone does not show how the luggage area will be used.
The useful principle
The useful comparison is not ceremony against convenience; it is advance coordination against an on-demand handover.

06 — Cost and scope
Compare the same journey scope
FCET confirms journey cost at booking for the itinerary agreed at that point. When comparing prices, use the same addresses, terminal, timing, stops, vehicle requirement and waiting scope so both quotations describe the same Gatwick journey. Ask what each arrangement includes and how changes are handled. A new stop, different airport, additional waiting or altered destination can change the job. Transparent comparison means judging the two real offers for the same journey, not comparing an incomplete headline with a fully described booking.
